For Nigerian singer-songwriter Noon Dave, inspiration rarely arrives with noise. Sometimes, it appears quietly, through a look across the room, a subtle signal, or a moment that unfolds slowly enough to become a memory before you even realise it. His latest single, “Lotion,” is built from one of those moments.

On Lotion, Noon Dave transforms a real-life encounter into a record that feels almost cinematic in its intimacy. The story behind the song is disarmingly simple: a flirtation filled with unmistakable green lights, a spontaneous decision to follow the moment wherever it led, and an evening that unfolded with an unexpected tenderness.

Rather than dramatizing the experience, Noon Dave leans into subtlety. The record unfolds like a late-night memory replayed in slow motion, wrapped in warm instrumentation, gentle percussion, and layered vocals that feel both vulnerable and assured.

Lotion continues Noon Dave’s growing reputation as one of the most emotionally attuned voices in Nigeria’s alternative pop and R&B space. His music often sits at the intersection of confession and atmosphere, where storytelling is carried not just by lyrics but by feeling.

Born David Obafemi in the Benin Republic on May 23 and raised largely in Lagos, Noon Dave began writing music at a young age, absorbing sonic influences from the city’s restless cultural pulse. An Ogun State native and a distinguished graduate of Peter Kings College of Music, he has cultivated a sound that moves fluidly across soul, R&B, pop, reggae, and Afrobeats, drawing from a broad spectrum of inspirations that include J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, Drake, Adele, Bryson Tiller, PartyNextDoor, Frank Ocean, and Burna Boy.

In 2022, Noon Dave signed a recording agreement with Chocolate City Music, one of Africa’s most influential entertainment companies, a move that signalled the beginning of a more ambitious phase in his artistry. That same year, he introduced himself to listeners with his debut single “Brunch,” a playful, sensual record that quickly amassed close to a million streams across platforms.

His momentum continued in 2023 with the release of “Hillary,” a fiery single that challenged the dynamics of toxic love. The record resonated widely, earning over a million streams and later receiving a remix featuring South African star Pabi Cooper, accompanied by a vibrant music video that expanded his reach beyond Nigeria.

By 2024, Noon Dave had begun demonstrating the depth of his artistry. He released “Noon at Noon,” a live EP that showcased the richness of his vocals and reinterpretations of some of his favourite songs, followed by the confident single “Face Card.” That same year culminated in the release of his debut project “GEM” EP, a body of work that positioned him as a versatile voice capable of navigating both intimacy and sonic experimentation.

He opened 2025 with “Believe,” an uplifting and energetic record that encouraged listeners to trust their journeys and push through adversity, a reminder that beyond the romance and vulnerability in his music lies an artist deeply invested in emotional truth.

With “Lotion,” Noon Dave returns to what he does best: turning fleeting experiences into immersive soundscapes. The single captures the beauty of small moments, the quiet kind that don’t demand attention but leave a lasting impression.

In Noon Dave’s world, sometimes the most powerful stories aren’t loud.

Sometimes, they unfold slowly in a room where two people sit in comfortable silence while Frank Ocean plays in the background.
